Patrick Vellner - One of the top athletes in the sport of CrossFit and a professional chiropractor. Before Pat became a CrossFit athlete he was a competitive gymnast and lacrosse player. After competing nationally for several years, he retired from gymnastics in 2010. In 2012, Pat moved to Montreal to study Kinesiology at McGill University. At the time, he was only trying to keep himself fit. He went on to win the Open in 2019 and made it to podium three out of the last 5 years. With Mat Fraser retiring 2021 could possibly be the year for Pat to become the fitness man on earth.
In this podcast, Pat shares how he was introduced to the sport of CrossFit. Pat discusses how he has successfully managed his professional life with his elite athletics life. Pat speaks on some of the challenges he overcame at both the 2016 and 2018 CrossFit Games. Pat gives his opinion on the "mind over matter" mindset that is portrayed in the gruelling workouts that CrossFit athletes face.
Pat comments on the book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. Pat agrees that atomic habits are key for achieving breakthrough moments. He believes; great preparation brings on great results within the opportunities presented.
